Michelle rebraided her hair into Indian braids because she read another Sherman Alexie book. She noticed she mentions Indians braids many times in the stories. When Joots asked her how she knew what Indian braids were she told her she remembered long ago seeing an old Indian chief with braids crying when she saw someone littering.
