Happy Veteran’s Day
My father (rest his soul) Roosevelt Aaihkuruk Paneak, son of Simon and Susie Paneak, all from the Brooks Range Area. I give my honor & gratitude for them. It was in the 1940’s when Mr. Helge Instead whom I respect for adventuring out, coming across a clan of nomadic Inupiaqs. Not knowing each others language, life style of survival, welcoming & adopted each other to openly teach & learn patiently about 2 different cultures. Cultures that came to establish Anaktuvuk Pass. Anaktuvuk means “The valley of caribou droppings.” Which was 8-10 very large families that were nomads following the caribou.
