Celebrating Juneteenth is great but let’s not forget that freedom is not free. Before the proclamation happened, there was a war, for that freedom many lives were lost. The ones who survived, many suffered PTSD, loss of limbs, injuries that never healed all the way. Families lost loved ones or were left taking care of mental and health issues. Never to be the same again, and some may have been freed that day but many still were not treated as so. To this day many still feel like they are fighting for equality, and against prejudice, profiled. Treated differently by laws in court and on the street. Let us not forget the cost it took to get to Juneteenth. Freedom is not free. Many of my brothers are frim fighting in wars. I see what was left afterwards.
